Professor Hwang Hanjeong, who is affiliated with the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering and the Department of Digital Healthcare Engineering and serves as the Director of the AI Healthcare Research Center for Smart City at Korea University Sejong Campus, has been selected among the world's top 2% scientists on the ‘2024 World TOP 2% Scientists List,’ jointly announced by Stanford University and the global academic publisher Elsevier.
This list is published annually based on a comprehensive analysis of the citation counts and research achievements of scientific papers using the Scopus academic database.
The AI Smart City Healthcare Research Center led by Professor Hwang, was established in July 2023 with the support of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP). The center aims to develop technologies and cultivate talent in the healthcare ICT field. Over the past two years, the center has achieved remarkable research outcomes, including the publication of 22 SCIE-level papers (with 8 ranked in the top 10%), 12 patent applications, and 5 technology transfers. Additionally, Meta Immune Tech(MIT), a company that collaborates as a faculty-participated and joint research institution, demonstrated the practical value of these achievements by winning an Innovation Award in the digital healthcare category at CES 2024.
The AI Smart City Healthcare Research Center is not only focused on research outcomes but also on training highly skilled professionals at the master's and doctoral levels. The center has established the Department of Healthcare ICT Convergence within the Graduate School and has produced 37 master's and doctoral graduates to date. Notably, one of the doctoral graduates from the center was recently appointed as an assistant professor at a university in Gangwon Province, showcasing the center's success in fostering talented professionals.
